Charles Dickens Museum

48 Doughty Street is Charles Dickens’s only surviving home in London. Nestled in the historic streets of Bloomsbury, the Museum is where Dickens began married life, became established as a writer, and shot to international fame. See the study where Dickens penned Oliver Twist, and the desk at which he wrote other iconic works such as Great Expectations. As you explore his home you will see Dickens’s personal belongings and furniture, manuscripts, rare books and original architectural features, such as the copper in the washhouse, much like the one that Mrs. Cratchit uses to steam the family’s Christmas pudding in A Christmas Carol. Learn about the world beyond Dickens’ front door, where one of the greatest writers in the English language, found his inspiration. Founded in 1925, the Museum holds the world’s most comprehensive collection of material relating to Dickens, comprising personal belongings, paintings, letters, manuscripts, and rare books amongst other objects. The collection is significant for its breadth and depth and allows visitors to explore Dickens’s influence and legacy. The historic house is complemented by a rotating exhibition programme (entry included in admission), Tea Room and Shop. Group tickets, guided tours or special event tickets are not eligible.
