What Pride means to us

• Pride for me means seeing this Trainbow all year round and remembering that I belong. It's an open-mindedness, a celebration and a protest; complicated but beautiful. I'm proud our railway is for everyone.

• The need for Pride is not just about celebrating the LGBT+ community with friends, families and allies but our right to exist without fear, persecution or shame of who or what we are. Amongst the colour, glitter, music and fabulous outfits, Pride, for me, is a time to remember the fight for equality in law, and that LGBT+ people still face discrimination and challenges across the world.

• Pride is a celebration of our diverse community. It’s about appreciating and respecting everyone for who they are, recognising how far we have come, and reminding us of where we still have to go.

• Pride for me is a celebration, a coming together of the LGBT+ community to stand against oppression and harassment. It also remembers the Stonewall riots and the people who stood for equality. Pride symbolises the weaving of the past and present to fight for a future without discrimination.

• Pride to me is the ability to be who you want to be, dress how you want to dress and love who you want to love, without fear of judgement or bullying. It’s about saying I’m here, I have a voice and I belong.

• Pride for me is just that! It invokes pride in being who I am, something that was difficult to achieve growing up. Seeing crowds of people coming together to support the LGBTQ+ community makes me feel supported, safe and protected.

• Pride for me is about coming together as a community to celebrate who we are, to appreciate our similarities as well as our differences. Other than the parties and floats, Pride provides a safe space for expression, appreciating the progress that has been made whilst protesting for a more inclusive future society.

• Pride means being unapologetically who I am 365 days of the year. It is a Protest and it is a Celebration of who we are. Pride means we support all members of the community and stand tall, with them, for them and to protect them.

• Pride for me is a chance to give everybody the respect they deserve. It is a call to action to celebrate diversity and show that it is more than okay to be yourself - you are accepted, you are loved and you should be proud of who you are.
