What is Railway 200?
The Stockton & Darlington Railway opened on September 27, 1825, connecting places, people, communities and ideas and ultimately transforming the world.
Railway 200 is a year-long nationwide partnership-led campaign to celebrate 200 years of the modern railway exploring four main themes:
- Skills & Education
- Innovation, Technology & Environment
- Heritage, Culture & Tourism
- Celebrating Railway People
GTR is delighted to be supporting Rail 200 with a range of events and campaigns across our network
- We are supporting national Rail 200 events, including the Great Gathering in Derby where we are sending one of our electronic signalling fitted trains to the event, to show the future of digital signalling
- We are celebrating our fantastic staff and the contribution they, and for many their families have made in developing the railway
- We have set up a community grant scheme to support local celebratory events across our network
- We are collecting customer’s stories about their first rail experience, to capture the wonder of that first time and the role it has played in our customer’s lives
