Can you take your bike on board?
Bikes are usually allowed on our trains at off-peak times on weekdays and at weekends.
However, when large cycling events are taking place with hundreds or thousands of participants, restrictions may be put in place. This is to avoid the walkways and vestibules on trains becoming blocked by the number of bikes. A queuing system for bikes may be put in place or there may even be a complete ban on bikes for a period of time.
If your event is on a weekday, you'll need to follow our regular cycle policy.
BHF London to Brighton Bike Ride 2026
Sunday 21 June
All day, customers traveling with non-folding bikes cannot board trains at any station in the south coast area, as shown in the map below.
The restrictions apply to all stations within a zone from Angmering in the west, Haywards Heath in the north and Polegate in the east.
Additionally, from the start of service until 10:00, non-folding bikes will not be allowed on trains for journeys to Clapham Junction.
These restrictions are for safety reasons, and to prevent overcrowding, due to the significant number of bikes taking part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride.
Please note, there is also planned engineering work taking place between Polegate and Eastbourne / Hastings / Ore / Ashford International. Replacement buses will running. For safety reasons, non-folding bikes cannot be taken on replacement buses at any time.
